FACULTY OF BIOENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY, UMK PRODUCED ITS OWN ANTISEPTIC HAND SANITIZER TO PREVENT THE TRANSMISSON OF CORONOVIRUS OUTBREAK, COVID-19

March 18, 2020, Considering the difficulty faced to prevent and break the chain of coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19), Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FBKT), UMK has initiated proactive steps by producing its own antiseptic hand sanitizer particularly for the needs of UMK. The project was conducted by students of Bioindustrial Technology program, and with helped by laboratory assistants and FBKT lecturers. Approximately 500 bottles of antiseptic hand sanitizer have been successfully produced and fully based on standard formulation of World Health Organization (WHO). This proactive action is one of mitigant efforts to prevent the COVID-19 outbreak among UMK students and staff. In overall, this initiative is not only cost-effective, but also serve as hands-on opportunity for students to produce antiseptic hand sanitizer. Furthermore, this effort can also improve awareness among the students and staff on the importance to prevent and overcome the COVID-19 outbreak.
